Head Cement Cap Pattern & Tying Instructions

Video Transcript:

Jars of head cement can be a real pain, particularly when they get a bit older and the lid gets gummed up. Also, unscrewing the cap, dipping your bodkin in and applying the cement can be fairly time consuming. Having to then screw the lid back on tight enough to seal, takes even more time. Salvation, however, may await right in your refrigerator in the form of certain condiment bottles. Many have lids that are the same size and with the same threads as head cement bottles. Before screwing one on to the head cement however, I’d recommend cleaning it thoroughly with warm water then drying it with a paper towel. Next, simply remove the original head cement lid and replace it with the condiment cap. It’s a good bit quicker to pop the cap, dip your bodkin in, apply the cement and then just snap the cap shut to form an airtight seal.
