It’s not always best to slam your streamer to the bank and strip it back to you. When fish aren’t aggressively chasing streamers, for example in cold water when their metabolism is slow, or during bright days in clear water, an effective way to interest them is by dead-drifting a streamer, typically with a strike indicator. The fly tumbles down through the current and looks like a dead or crippled baitfish or crayfish. Sometimes trout can’t resist this presentation.
