15. The Real Steelheading Experience (15 of 15)

When trying to think of a series like this we envisioned the most important aspects of successful guided days. There are just a number of things that repeat themselves day to day out on the water. We hope that whether a newbie fishing the Deschutes on a blistering summer day or an expert on a small Eerie trib there was something in their for you. I know in trying to hone the scope of this video we certainly learned from one another and were reminded of plenty that’s easy to slip through the cracks.

If there’s one single lesson beginners to experts can take into consideration it’s go out there with intent. Approach the conditions with intent, the river with intent and your technique with intent. Fishing is therapeutic and losing yourself in the moment is a great respite but angling with a purpose at every turn is a recipe for success.

It’s now obvious that guides never screw up on their days off and that editing has nothing to do with superstar clips (que bloopers). The success of steelheading is measured in amazing moments not days.
