When you're dead drift steelheading, so much of it is about the drift. It's critical that you get that fly down near the bottom and dead drift without drag. And sometimes just moving a few feet up or downstream can change the way your fly drifts. And the side of the river you're on can also be important. I've been trying to fish this pocket on the far bank, and Jeff has been over on the other side catching steelhead.
I'm stubborn. I'm trying to do it from this bank. But I'm casting over faster water, and I'm just not getting the drift right. So it's just all about positioning. Sometimes just a few feet can make a difference.
