Fly Fishing With Your Family
Fishing trips, fishing spots & fishing with the kids
Fly fishing doesn’t require a trip to the mountains or the shore. Every city in the United States, from the urban jungle of Manhattan to the desert city of Scottsdale, has fish that will take a fly and are fun to catch with your entire family. Sunfish, bass, and carp are all wonderful fly-rod species and the closer a fishing spot is to your home, the more you can enjoy it with your family.
Besides the videos and other instructions on the Orvis Learning Center, here are some resources that can help you enjoy fishing with your family, close to home.

Co-founded by Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, the Children & Nature Network (C&NN) was created to encourage and support the people and organizations working nationally and internationally to reconnect children with nature. The network provides a critical link between researchers and individuals, educators and organizations dedicated to children's health and well-being. C&NN also promotes fundamental institutional change and provides resources for sharing information, strategic initiatives and success stories.
The C&NN news service and portal, childrenandnature.org, offers parents, youth, civic leaders, educators and health-care providers access to the latest news and research in this field as well as practical advice, including ways to apply new-found knowledge at home, at school, in work environments, and in the community. The network also engages a diverse community of institutes, organizations and industries by providing a forum for publishing and presenting research, reports and case studies on children's health and nature, and related program-development strategies and support.
The web site of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, TakeMeFishing.org offers a wealth of information on fishing with your family and fishing close to home. On the site you can find places to fish, ways to fish, techniques to use, and information on boating and conservation. One of the most useful tools developed by the RBFF is an interactive mapping system that will find the closest fishing spot to your location, even in urban areas.
