6. How to remove a hook from your skin. (6 of 20)

A little aside on how to remove a barbed hook from your anatomy if you are unlucky and hook yourself.

Video Transcript:

- [Narrator] As with most types of fly fishing, but especially when fishing two flies, as we are here, there's always a chance of getting hooked. Here's a quick way to remove a hook on the river, as long as it's not in the eye or in really soft tissue. Those instances are better dealt with by a trip to the doctor.
- [Tom] So we've a little issue here, and Mark, when he was tying on a fly, got a fly stuck in his thumb. So we're going to show you how to pull out a barbed fly. Of course, barbless is always better, but if you don't have barbless, then you've got to do this trick.
So you take a heavy piece of monofilament. This is 1X. And you run it around the bend of the hook. There. All right, I'm going to pull on three. Okay? Ready?
One, two, three.
- [Mark] Wow. It didn't even hurt. ♪ [music] ♪
