One final aspect of bonefish behavior the angler needs to understand is their wariness. Bonefish are spooked by shadows, birds, wakes made by the wading angler, fly lines landing too close to them, and even a fly that's too heavy, especially in shallower water. In fact, sometimes schools spook themselves for no apparent reason. A school of spooked bonefish may move just a few yards and then continue feeding or the whole school can suddenly bolt for deep water.
