How to Organize Your Fly Box (65 of 65)

How should you organize your trout fly boxes, and what kind of boxes should you pick?  Should you organize them by size, by type, or some other method?  How many fly boxes should you put in your sling bag or fishing vest?  What works for one fly fisher may not work for others, but we’ll show you how Tom Rosenbauer organizes his boxes.  And he carries a lot of flies when trout fishing!

04:44 Big stoneflies, big Copper Johns, all the really big nymphs.

04:50 A couple of eggs, a couple of mop flies. So this is what George Daniel calls a junk box.

04:58 So this is my medium nymph box. These are my size 14 and 16 nymphs, maybe a few 12s in there. And these are the ones, honestly, I use the most.

05:09 So it's more heavily packed than the other ones, and I just kind of organize them by rows in that box. But I know if I need a size 14 or 16 nymph, this is the box I'm going to use.

05:23 And then finally, I have my small nymph box.

05:29 Little Baetis nymphs. I put my scuds in here, my scud and sow bug imitations, little Zebra Midges. So all the smaller stuff goes in here.

05:35 So I can carry a lot of nymphs in these flat boxes. And the other thing I do is I have a B for big, S for small, and M for medium on the end because I stack them in there.

05:53 That way I can find them quickly because they all look alike. So that's how I organize my fly boxes. You figure out your own way, and I'm sure it'll work well.
