7. What Do You Really Need To Get Started? (7 of 19)

You know, I think one of the things that intimidates people about fly fishing is a vision of a fly angler with waders and vests and creel and all these gadgets hanging from the vest. But you don't need all of that stuff.

What do you need? What are the bare essentials you need to get started in fly fishing? Well, you need that basic rod, reel, and line outfit in one form or another. You need a rod, you need a reel, you need a line, and you need a leader.

What else do you need? What are the bare essentials that you need? You really only need a pair of snips to cut your line. You need a box of flies, and it doesn't have to be fancy box. It can be the box that you get for free when you buy the flies in the store, and you probably are going to need a couple different spools of tippet material. That's all.

You can wade wet, which means just in a pair of sandals and a pair of shorts. You can fish from shore. You can fish from a canoe or other kind of boat. You don't need to get dressed in waders right away if you don't need them.

So, when you get started in fly fishing, keep it simple at first. You'll find lots of uses for those gadgets later on, but you don't need them when you're starting out.

Creo que una de las cosas que hace que las personas se sientan intimidadas por la pesca con mosca es esta imagen de un pescador con waders y un chaleco y la caña y todos estos elementos colgando de su chaleco. Pero no se necesitan todas esas cosas, ¿qué necesitas? ¿Qué cosas esenciales necesitas para empezar a hacer pesca con mosca? Necesitas los básicos, una caña, línea y carrete de una forma u otra.

Necesitas una caña, una línea, un carrete y necesitas una guía. ¿Qué más? Realmente sólo necesitas un par de tijeras para cortar tu línea, necesitas una caja de moscas, ni siquiera tiene que ser una elegante, puede ser la que te dan gratis cuando compras las moscas en la tienda y probablemente necesites un par de carretes de material de tippet y eso es todo.

Puedes meterte a mojarte, lo que significa usar solo un par de sandalias y shorts, puedes pescar desde la orilla, puedes pescar desde una canoa u otro tipo de barco... No necesitas vestirte con waders desde el principio si no las necesitas. Entonces, cuando empiezas a pescar con mosca mantenlo simple al principio, le encontraras el uso a todos esas herramientas más adelante pero no las necesitas desde el principio.
